Salford Mayor handed insight into our digital innovations

THE Mayor of Salford has been given a first-hand insight into how many of the digital innovations being brought to life in our hospital are transforming patient care.

Paul Dennett made his fact-finding visit to learn more about the way our Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) and Future Digital Factory teams are breaking new ground in a tech-driven NHS.

He was accompanied on his tour by our Chairman, Jim Potter; our Group Chief Strategy and Organisational Development Officer, Raj Jain; our Group Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), Gareth Thomas; our Director of Digital, Rachel Dunscombe; our Divisional CCIO, Jim Ritchie; Salford’s Chief Digital Officer, Jon Corner; our GDE Programme Director, Mike Turner; and our Digital EcoSystems Lead, Chris Chapman

Among the initiatives showcased was Malinko, a project that is making a real difference for staff working in the community by making the best use of their time to in delivering patient care.

Gwen Nash, one of our District Nurse Team Leaders, demonstrated how the electronic tool is helping colleagues schedule care better when they are out and about.

The technology – one of more than 50 home-grown projects being delivered by the GDE and Future Health teams – is installed on their mobile devices, so everyone can see where they are and what visits they are on.

For the first time, it enables them at a glance to plan and re-organise visits, find the best routes, and reduce travel times.

Mike said: “We welcomed the opportunity to give Paul an inside track on how, with the help of staff across all wards and departments, Salford at the heart of digital advances across health and social care.

“He took a keen interest in our world-class projects and how we are determined to translate the learning from them into benefits for our patients.”

In his role as our city’s Mayor, Paul is the latest in a long line of high-profile visitors to Salford Royal for an insight into our work – just a couple of months ago our projects triggered interest from Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock.
