Salford Clinical Fellow speaks at E Health Week
Dr Matt Atkinson, clinical fellow at Salford Royal, explains how healthcare providers need to be training our leaders of the future in digital skills.
"As a Public Health doctor by background, I feel I've come a long way since coming to Salford Royal a year ago. Salford took a risk and employed me full time as a digital leader, when they could actually have appointed a doctor to see patients instead.
"My background has brought things to the table at Salford - a knowledge of health economics has helped and I'm now heavily involved in population health.
Trusts need to take a risk and train up digital leaders of the future, says Matt.
He urges providers to train up informatics doctors and get information out to junior doctors in their own teaching programmes and in other ways.
Matt believes it's vital that the people who supervise our junior members of the teams are responsible for their digital skills, as well as their clinical skills.
"Line management, leadership and personal development must always include digital", he explained.
